Annotation

Bhisma or Bhisma Pitamah was one of the most important Characters of the Mahabharata. He was the eighth child of King Shantanu and Goddess Ganga and his original name was Devavrata. Bhisma took a robust pledge to follow lifelong celibacy to get his father Shantanu married to Satyavati. He is best known for taking this pledge, because of that despite the king of Hastrinapur, he participated in the war on behalf of Kauravas and played the role of guardian of the throne of Hastinapur. He didn't mary and remained a celibate. He was blessed with "Death at Will'. He was the chief commander of the Kauravas for 10 days. When the Mahabharata war finished off then he took "death at will" at the Banks of the river Ganga. In the development of Indian Philosophical thought, we refer only to the Texts such as Veda, Brahmasutra, Upnishads and Geeta. The meaning of Tradition is that "Which is written in our Holy scriptures". Therefore, to understand and to know about the entire Indian Tradition, it is important to study all the Philosophy and texts Dr. Vinay is famous for elaborating the huge and complex texts into simple and easy to understand language. He has written more than two dozen books.
