The present volume VI on techniques and plant quarantine is far from being complete. However, we feel that any further delay in the publication of this volume would be harmful to the interest of both readers and authors. The various chapters cover the following main aspects : technological developments and their use in preservation of viability/stability of fungi; synecological approach in epidemiology; application of shigometer for assessing tree health and wood product quality; detection of seed-bonu: fungi, mycoplasma like organisms; diagnostic techniques of plant mycoplasmas, viro ids and viruses; biocontrol of fungal diseases; use of Agro bacterium for gene transfers and crop improvement; plant quarantine and its strategic use in disease management The chapters have been written by subject matter specialists and provide the latest in technological developments. It is hoped that techniques for detection and characterisation of plant pathogens will be extremely useful in developing strategies for their management The critical analysis of epiphytotics and use of Agro bacterium as gene-vehicle would not only be stimulating but also useful in the management of diseases and crop improvement It is hoped that the volume would be useful to the research workers and teachers, as well as to the planners and funding agencies.
