Physics is the important branch of science mainly concerned with the properties of matter and energy and the relationship between them. Physics is based on mathematics and traditionally includes mechanics, electricity and magnetism, optics, acoustics and heat. Modern Physics based on quantum theory, includes atomic, nuclear, particle, and solid state studies. It also embrace applied fields like geophysics and meteorology. And physicist is a person well versed in the study of physics. In the present encyclopaedia, we have taken all leading physicists of the world - past and present. Alphabetically arranged by names, we have given biographical sketches and illustrious contribution they have made to science of physics. Wherever possible major theories propounded by them, are given brief introduction. This work in four volumes, hopefully, will prove most informative and useful to one and all concerned. This will serve as a dependable reference work.
