Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. This precious relic is kept in a niche or oratory built in the interior of one of the four large pentagonal pillars which support the magnificent cupola a coma Epistolae, of the Pa pal altar. Paul V., in 1606, placed it there; in 1625, Urban VIII. Added the Holy Lance, and in 1629, a por tion of the wood of the true Cross.
