Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The following account of Montenegro was published, about ten years ago, as an article in the British and Foreign Review. It is here reprinted, under the impression that at the present moment, when the attention of Europe has been so generally drawn to that country by its struggle with Turkey, the information it contains may acquire a new interest. The whole has been revised and corrected, and the history brought down to the present day.
