Annotation
Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. IN this Handbook some attempt is made to give an idea of the present condition of medical education in London, and of the great facilities for the study of disease. By London will be understood the two areas, the City of London proper, which occupies 668 acres, the boundaries corresponding nearly with the old line of walls in Saxon and, probably, Roman times, and the much larger tract surrounding the City, administered by the London County Council. This area is known as the Administrative County of London. In the first article it is proposed to give some concise particulars of the Administrative County of London, and a slight sketch of the administration of the medical service for the sick poor. The Administrative County of London, which was created by the Local Government Act of 1888, is that portion of the Metropolis, excluding the City proper, which is under the control of the London County Council.
