Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. That was how the matter started. The some months I was expected to write became a year, and then friends, who were pleased with them, sug gested that my letters were worthy of being pre served in book form. Influenced by this suggestion, I consented to make a book Of my reminiscences. If, after reading it, the reader is pleased, I shall be glad the book was published.
