Annotation
Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The horseshoers' rasp (fig. 5) is used to remove the necessary amount of horn in the preparation of the foot; to even clinches; to make a slight groove under each clinch; to run lightly over the clinches in order to smooth them; and for rasping metal. The rasp that is used on the hoof should never be used at the bench: use an old rasp for working on metal.
