Maddie and Miss Birdie: Down At The Dock focuses on the letter D. It is the fourth book in a series of twenty-six. The goals of this series are to indicate that in perceived imperfection, there is still grace and perfection; to teach the alphabet and increase vocabulary; to show a love for animals while teaching facts of each; to show that the imagination is a wonderful thing to use, and last but not least, to bring to children ideas of entertainment and excitement that lie within nature. Each book has a character with a childhood illness or disorder that begins with the letter of the alphabet that the book is focused on. Maddie is a smart, kind, adventurous young girl who is always looking to have a day full of fun. Miss Birdie is a blue bird who is Maddie's side-kick and stays prepared to help and serve with unconditional love. Join Maddie, her brother Jake, and her friends as they enjoy a sunny day down at the dock, swimming and playing. They enjoy joking with one another until they realize that their jokes put Debbie in danger. Debbie has Type 1 Diabetes and experiences a low blood sugar, but the boys believe she is tricking them. Daisy, her devoted service dog, comes to her rescue. They soon learn that they should dare to be like Daisy.
